Desert Shores Lagoon
All residents who live in the Racquet Club and elsewhere in Desert Shores have access to something you'll find no where else in Las Vegas: a community lagoon and recreation area. It is located directly across from Desert Shores Racquet Club:
The Panorama above was taken on Memorial Day, which is one of a few enormous, festive celebrations for the community. Most of the time, it's not nearly so crowded, and a variety of recreation opportunities are available in this resort-like setting.
Take a tour of the Desert Shores Lagoon using the tabs below:
Overview
"Wait ... am I in Waikiki or Las Vegas??"
The Lagoon is a central spot to take advantage of the lakes of Desert Shores, whether you live on the lake or not. All residents of the community have access to the lagoon and recreation area, which is open year round. As you'll see looking through these tabs, the variety of things to do spans the spectrum of resident interests, and it's just fun.

While most of the photos on the website show the lagoon during its main events, much of the time it's calm and there's plenty of room to just kick back, read a book, sunbathe and take in the one-of-a-kind atmosphere. If that's all you want to do, it's easy to find that perfect spot to be a beach vegetable.
Lagoon Pool
The Lake Next to the Lake

The huge Lagoon Pool is open from mid-spring through early fall. While it's of wading depth to chest-level, lifeguards are watching the pool whenever it is open.
Whether you're with a group or cooling your heels by yourself, you can't beat the atmosphere here!

Boats
Boating from the Lagoon
Anyone who lives in Desert Shores can enjoy boating there. And if you don't have your own kayak or large electric cruiser, the Lagoon has a dozen paddleboats available for resident and guest use. The boats see a lot of action, with beautiful weather and surroundings calling you out to sea.
And if you have friends in another boat, there's always the obligatory race. May the best legs win! (You know, the ones in the best condition...)

Above, four boats head out toward the Desert Shores Racquet Club across the lake.

And boy, are there gorgeous places to go!

Court Sports
Having a Ball at the Lagoon
If you've come to the Desert Shores Lagoon, it can feel like Venice Beach because you can play beach volleyball or basketball by the lake. Sometimes it's one-on-one, sometimes it's four-on-four, and during big events it might be ten-on-ten (well, for volleyball, anyway). But it's always like being on vacation! Maybe the best comparison is a cruise ship that can't sink.

OK, these guys went overboard on the ball, though.

...Not sure they even have a ball. But they're watching something.

How's this for a scenic basketball court?
Playground
Beach Playground
As you can tell, there's a lot for kids aged 2-92 to do here. But what's a big beach without a shady playground for the younger kids?

Wow, these two even dressed up!

Picnics
Picnics at the Lagoon
The shaded picnic facilities at the Desert Shores Lagoon are truly extraordinary, especially when you consider the view. New shade structures with pavers and barbeque facilities attract single families and larger events. The larger areas can be reserved in advance, and others are always available on a first-come, first-served basis. But you can almost always find the perfect spot!

That's the Racquet Club in the background, and the larger birthday celebration below was taken from the Racquet Club.

Major Events
The Big Events!
Desert Shores hosts major events for the community at the Lagoon on Memorial Day, Labor Day, National Night Out, and other special occasions. People from all over Desert Shores come to eat and have fun.
Take a look below at a taste of the festivities!

First we'll check in at the greeting area, and then get going!

Yep, looks like folks are starting to show up!

And this looks promising...

So let the festivities begin!

No sense leaving anyone in limbo...

So better throw our backs into it!
The Calm Lagoon
On the Quieter Side
It helps to show what the Lagoon looks like at quieter times to really get a feel for it. There's nothing like Desert Shores anywhere in the southwest. When you own or rent a house here, it's more than a house. It's a retreat and a vacation.
