Legislative News for HOAs
Dear Grassroots Initiative Member:
Coming up in the very near future is a new deadline for Legislative Bills. April 12th is the deadline for all bills to be passed out of their respective committees and be presented for a vote of the full Nevada Senate or Assembly, depending on where the bill originated. If a bill does not pass out of the committee responsible for it, the bill dies.
April 23rd is the deadline for a vote by the full Nevada Senate or Assembly.
Bills approved in house of origin are sent to the other body for debate, consideration and pass/do not pass.
For that reason, it is very important that you contact your individual representatives, as well as the members of the Senate and Assembly Judiciary Committees, and express your opinion on the bills that are out there. To find your legislator in your district, visit the Grassroots website here.
Nevada's CAI Legislative Action Committee opposes the following bills, because they are not good for us, the homeowners that pay our assessments on time and follow the rules. These bills will likely result in increased assessments on us, and will force us to subsidize those that don't pay. The main points of our opposition have been shared with you previously, so we won't repeat the rationale, but we do encourage you to read the bills on the Nevada Legislative website and form your own opinion. The bills can be found at www.leg.state.nv.us . You can also click on the bills highlighted below.
We have reviewed, discussed and oppose the following bills:
One easy way to voice your concerns is to also take advantage of a powerful legislative online web tool. Please indicate your disapproval of these bills by clicking on: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/Opinions/77th2013/A/ and tell Nevada lawmakers you are opposed to these bills that are unhealthy for our communities.
Please note that we have not listed any bills that we are in favor of. Almost all of the bills proposed do nothing but increase our assessments. The CAI Nevada LAC's position on all the bills that are out there can be found on the Grassroots page on the CAI website found here.
The important thing is to contact your legislators; let them know how you feel. Those who want all of us to pay for their issues and problems do not hesitate to contact their representatives. Let them know how you feel. Most people living in associations are satisfied. Let's not allow our Legislature to continue to create laws that benefit the small, vocal minority at the expense of the responsible homeowner!
